What We Do In Worthing

Leak Detection

Leaks rarely announce themselves in Worthing's older houses. We trace the water back to its source, whether it hides under a Broadwater loft conversion's floor or inside the thick walls of a Tarring cottage, before anything is cut open.

Burst Pipes

A burst pipe is telling you to act fast. We isolate the water, repair the split or failed joint in a Findon Valley semi or a West Worthing flat, and check the rest of the run so the water can go back on safely.

No Water & Low Pressure

Taps dry on one floor, or the whole property. We establish quickly whether the problem sits inside your walls or on the water company's side of the boundary, so you chase the right people and nobody pays for a wasted visit.

Blocked Drains

Slow sinks, a gurgling bath or water rising in an outside gully means the drain has blocked, not just the plughole. Stop running water into it if you can; we clear the blockage and check the run behind it is flowing freely.

Blocked Toilets

Shared washrooms in converted buildings, care schemes and business premises across Worthing need toilets that work every time. We clear blocked pans and soil pipes, repair failed flushes and check everything refills properly afterwards.

Leaking Taps & Valves

With so many Worthing houses mid-renovation, dripping taps and weeping valves are a weekly find, alongside isolation valves that have seized and washers that have simply worn out. We find the failed part, replace it correctly and check for leaks before we leave.

Common Call-Outs

Common Plumbing
Emergencies in Worthing

The following make up the bulk of the calls we receive. Any of them is worth a telephone call, and several should not wait for daylight.

  • Pipe bursting without warning
  • Stopcock that won't turn off
  • Water missing from part of the property
  • Drain smell from a gully or sink
  • Toilet blocked and rising
  • Pressure weak or failing
  • Water dripping through a ceiling
  • Water spreading near electrics
  • Overflow running onto the path
  • No water to the property

While You Wait For Us

Turn off the water at the stopcock if it can be reached safely, usually under the kitchen sink, and open the cold taps to drain the pipes. Switch the boiler or immersion heater off if it is hot water that is leaking.

Keep well away from electrics if water is reaching them, and only switch off at the fuse box if you can do it without touching anything wet. Catch the drips and move valuables clear of the leak.

Do not stand under a ceiling that is bulging with water. If you smell gas, leave the building and call the National Gas Emergency line on 0800 111 999 first.

Leak Detection

Finding the Leak,
Not Just the Damp Patch

A damp patch that keeps spreading, or a water meter that ticks over with every tap shut, still has a source. We trace it with moisture readings and pressure testing, so the repair goes where the water is actually escaping rather than where it happens to show.

What To Expect

How an Emergency Call-Out Works

01

Call Us

Explain what has gone wrong. A plumber takes the call, at any hour and on any day of the year.

02

Arrival & Pricing

The attendance rate and a realistic arrival window are confirmed with you before anyone travels.

03

Test & Diagnose

The water is isolated first, then the cause is established and explained without jargon.

04

Repair or Make Safe

Stocked vans mean most leaks and blockages are repaired on the first visit, with anything outstanding left safe.

Snap the leak, the pipe or the blocked drain and send it over when you call; the plumber arrives already knowing what parts the job is likely to need.

Worthing Water Problems

No Water? Lost Pressure or No Hot Water?

A supply problem tells a story before a single pipe is opened. Which taps have stopped, and how, points us at the right part of the pipework.

Full No Water Breakdown → 01273 086899

No water in the whole house

Nothing from any tap means the problem is at the supply rather than out in the pipework. We check whether neighbours are affected, then the outside stopcock, the inside stopcock and the meter. If the fault is on the water company's side, that is their job and you are told immediately.

Pressure has dropped upstairs

Weak flow on the top floor usually comes down to the incoming pressure, a partly closed valve or old pipework furred with scale. A gravity-fed system with a loft tank behaves differently from mains-fed, so we check how yours is set up before anything else.

No water to the back bedroom basin

Every other tap runs but one is dead? That usually means a seized isolation valve, a blocked tap cartridge or a pipe kinked or crushed under the floor. We isolate, check the flow along the run and work back to where it stops.

No hot water but the boiler seems fine

If the boiler is firing but the taps run cold, a stuck diverter valve, a failed cylinder thermostat or an airlock in the hot pipework is often to blame. We handle the plumbing side and will tell you straight away if a Gas Safe registered engineer is needed.

Pipes bang every time a tap shuts

Same tap, same bang, and the cause is water hammer: water moving fast and stopping hard. Loose pipe clips, quick-closing valves on washing machines and high mains pressure are the usual culprits. Fitting an arrestor or securing the pipe usually ends it.

Water leaking when the washing machine runs

One appliance, every time, narrows it to two things: the machine's own hoses and seals, or the waste it drains into. A blocked or poorly fitted waste backs up under the worktop as the machine empties. We check both and replace what has failed.

Stopping the water comes first, then we explain what we found and what putting it right involves. Most problems we clear on the same visit.

On The Job

One Visit
Wherever Practical

Vans are stocked with the parts that fail most often, including pipe, fittings, valves, tap cartridges and cistern parts, alongside the drain rods and jetter needed to clear a blockage properly.

Most call-outs are therefore completed during the same visit. Where a part must be ordered, the water is left safely isolated and the return appointment is arranged before we leave rather than afterwards.

FAQs Made Simple

FIND YOUR ANSWERS
Can you come out tonight?

Yes. We run a 24 hour rota that covers evenings, weekends and bank holidays. Call and you get a real arrival window before anyone sets off, not a vague promise.

My cold water tank in the loft is as old as the house. Can it be repaired, or is it a new tank or nothing?

Most loft tank problems come down to a sticking float valve, a split overflow or a leaking connection, and all three are repairable. Where a tank is genuinely past saving, such as an old galvanised one rusting through, we say so and make it safe so the house keeps its water. What we will not do is condemn a whole system at midnight to sell you a new one.

Why do the outside taps and pipes on my seafront house keep corroding and leaking?

Salt air is the culprit. Within a few streets of the front it works into exposed fittings, corrodes brass and copper and lets joints weep, and a cold snap then finishes off whatever has weakened. Standard outside taps and fittings are not built for it. Properly lagged pipework, a frost-protected outside tap with its own isolation valve and good quality fittings last far longer, and that is what we fit as the permanent fix.

The water has gone off in my retirement flat. Is that my responsibility or the building's?

It depends where the problem sits. If your neighbours have no water either, the building's shared supply or the water main is the likely cause and the managing agent or water company needs to act. If it is only your flat, check your own stopcock has not been turned off first. Either way we can attend, work out which side the fault is on, and put it in writing for the agent if it is not yours to fix.
