Emergency Call-Outs
Hidden leaks under floors, behind tiling and inside walls traced with moisture readings and pressure tests, so the repair fixes the source rather than the stain.
A split pipe under the sink, a joint that has let go in the loft or water spraying from a cupboard. We isolate the supply, cut out the damaged section and get the water back on.
When the taps run dry or slow to a trickle, we work out quickly whether the problem sits in your own pipework or on the water main in the street, then either fix it on the spot or tell you exactly who to call.
Shared Victorian drain runs, tired clay pipes and decades of kitchen grease make backed-up gullies and manholes a regular call across Brighton and Hove. We rod or jet the line clear and check it is running freely before we go.
A blocked or overflowing toilet is more than a nuisance in a city full of guesthouses, late venues and busy lets. We clear the pan or the soil pipe fast and leave the washroom clean and working.
A tap that will not stop running, a valve weeping into a cupboard, or an isolation valve seized solid behind lath and plaster. We find the failed part, replace it and leave everything sealed and tidy.
Who We Are
From burst pipes to water coming through the ceiling, our emergency plumbing service covers Brighton and Hove 24/7. Your first call also gives us the chance to understand the problem and talk you through turning off the water and keeping damage down before a plumber arrives.
All work is carried out to current water regulations by qualified, fully insured plumbers. Further work outside the immediate repair is discussed first, while written reports and confirmation can be supplied for landlords or managing agents.
Common Call-Outs
The following problems account for most of the calls we receive. Each of them warrants professional attention, and several should not be left until the morning.
If it is safe to do so, turn off the water at the stopcock, usually under the kitchen sink, and open the cold taps to drain the system down. If hot water is leaking, switch off the boiler or immersion heater too.
Keep away from electrics if water is near them, and only switch off at the fuse box if you can reach it without touching anything wet. Catch drips in buckets and move valuables and furniture clear of the leak.
If a ceiling is bulging with water, do not stand under it. If you smell gas, leave the building and call the National Gas Emergency line on 0800 111 999 before contacting a plumber.

Leak Detection
A damp patch that keeps spreading, or a water meter that ticks over with every tap shut, still has a source. We trace it with moisture readings and pressure testing, so the repair goes where the water is actually escaping rather than where it happens to show.

Explain what you are seeing. A plumber answers the call, whatever the hour, including weekends and bank holidays.
An honest arrival window and the call-out rate are confirmed with you before a plumber sets off.
The water is isolated first, followed by the checks needed to establish the genuine cause of the leak or blockage.
Stocked vans mean most problems are resolved on the first visit. Anything outstanding is isolated and made safe.
A quick picture of the leak, the pipe or the blocked drain helps us brief the right plumber and load the right parts before we set off.
CALL 01273 086899When The Water Stops
A good share of these calls turn out to involve pipework that isn't inside the flat at all. Finding the stopcock and the shared supply often decides how quickly it is solved.
How We Trace Supply Problems → 01273 086899A flat with nothing coming out of any tap has lost its supply before it reaches you. In converted houses the stopcock and shared supply pipe often sit in a communal hallway or basement, so finding them is half the job. Anything on the water company's side of the boundary stays with them, and you hear that on arrival.
Low pressure across the whole flat usually points at a partly closed or failing stopcock, a shared supply being drawn on by several flats at once, or old lead or galvanised pipe furred up inside. Checking the flow at the kitchen tap is the first thirty seconds of the visit.
When everything else runs, the fault is local to that outlet. A seized isolation valve, a failed cartridge or a cistern valve clogged with hard-water scale will silence a single tap or toilet. We work back from the outlet until the water flows again.
With the cold side working, the problem sits on the hot side: a cylinder, an immersion heater, a combi that has locked out or a valve that has stuck. We handle the plumbing side and tell you straight away if a Gas Safe registered engineer is needed for the boiler itself.
A loud bang when a tap shuts off is water hammer: fast-moving water stopping suddenly in pipework that is poorly clipped or under high pressure. Knocking in older Brighton houses often comes from loose runs under the floorboards. We clip, fit arrestors or adjust valves so it stops.
Appliance leaks usually come from a split inlet hose, a loose waste connection or a blocked outlet backing up under the worktop. Turn the machine's isolation valve off first. We replace the failed hose or fitting and check the waste runs freely before it goes back on.
We isolate what is leaking, get the rest of the flat back on water, and explain what is left to do. If a freeholder or the water company has to be involved, you will know who and why before we leave.

Who calls us
Three groups make up the bulk of our work across Brighton and Hove. Whichever one you fall into, the response is the same.
A domestic emergency plumber for burst pipes, leaks, blocked drains and toilets and no water, evenings and weekends included.
A landlord plumber for rental repairs, with clear reporting you can pass straight to a tenant or a managing agent.
A commercial emergency plumber for premises that cannot afford downtime, covering kitchens, washrooms, drains and water supplies.
How It Works
A leak that only shows after heavy use still has an identifiable source. The pipework is isolated and checked section by section until pressure and moisture readings confirm where the water is getting out.
A price for the repair is provided once the cause has been established, not before. This avoids paying for parts that were never at fault and means the repair addresses the actual problem.
Beyond Brighton & Hove
Being based in Brighton and Hove puts most of the surrounding coast and Downs within easy reach. The same engineers cover Shoreham-by-Sea, Worthing, Peacehaven and Lewes, and each has its own page below.
FAQ
Feel free to contact us for more information
Yes. We run a 24 hour rota that covers evenings, weekends and bank holidays. Call and you get a real arrival window before anyone sets off, not a vague promise.
Turn off your own stopcock in case the leak is yours, catch what you can and keep away from any light fittings or electrics the water is near. If the flat above is empty or the neighbour cannot be reached, we can find the shared stopcock in the building, isolate the supply feeding the leak and trace where it is coming from, so the right person repairs it.
Very often, yes. Brighton's older terraces share combined drains that carry rainwater and waste together, so a partial blockage or a collapsed section of clay pipe backs water up into the lowest gully, which is usually the basement well. Clearing it once does not stop it happening again. We rod or jet the run, check the flow and tell you whether the pipe needs repairing or the problem is in a shared section the freeholder or water company looks after.
Getting venues back into service is a big part of our Brighton and Hove work, and evening call-outs to restaurants and bars are normal here rather than exceptional. The plumber's first aim is to clear the blockage and confirm the rest of your kitchen and washrooms are fine to keep using, so one blocked toilet or drain does not have to mean a closed room. Any repair to the pipework follows, either that night or before your next service if you would rather not work around us.
